Posted by Cayte Bosler on Collectively, this story describes how a simple, inexpensive yet clever innovation can provide an effective intermediate solution to people’s clean water needs.
“If water is life, dirty water’s death. Bad sanitation kills millions each year, mainly kids. Of course, you can always boil water. But millions more get ill as a result of breathing in smoke from cooking fires lit to do just that. Not to mention the trees cut down for the wood and charcoal to fuel the fires. But this isn’t just another whinge fest. There are cool solutions out there – smart, cheap water filters. They don’t sound particularly exciting (and they certainly don’t look it). But as icons of human progress go, they should be up there with the smartest of smartphones.”
